MONTREAL (AFP) — Undefeated Romanian Lucian Bute defends his International Boxing Federation super middleweight crown here Friday against Mexico's Librado Andrade.
Canadian-based southpaw Bute is 22-0, knocking out 18 opponents, while Andrade is 27-1 with 21 knockouts.
Bute, whose only fight outside of Canada in the past four years was a 2004 bout in his homeland, won the title here a year ago by stopping Colombian Alejandro Berrio in the 11th round.
Bute made his first title defence here last February, stopping American William Joppy in the 10th round.
Andrade's only defeat came in March of last year when he dropped a unanimous decision to Denmark's Mikkel Kessler at Copenhagen in Andrade's only prior world title fight.
The Mexican has bounced back with early stoppages in three fights since, the most recent an eighth-round stoppage of German Robert Stieglitz last March for the right to face Bute.
